How To Have More Energy Throughout Your Day

As young adults, we all have so many things that we want to do. We want to travel here, serve here, join this group, read these books, celebrate this holiday and before long we are out of energy and gulping down cans of caffeinated drinks (coffee, coke, etc…) and find ourselves exhausted. Well, I am here to save you from the Energy Zapper. I have found that I have more energy by doing things and not doing things that people find quite crazy. So, be ready for your mind to be blown and your life to change. So, first things first I must inform you that I have lots of energy, I find myself ready to run down the street or bike twenty miles any time of the day. I am always ready, because I always have energy to do those things. If you ever meet me, I might scare you a bit because I have lots of energy. Power Naps Now, that you know that about me, here are my crazy ways to have lots of energy and lots of fun too. One way that I find to have energy is what I call a Power Nap. These are so helpful. They only work if you get up early though. Old Ben Franklin’s saying, “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” rings so true. I usually get up around six in the morning and around eight or nine o'clock try to take a small power nap. It’s not anything spectacular, but it’s just a few minutes to sit down, breathe, and rest. These are so helpful. Only, if you are one of those people that can’t stay away once you sit down, I would recommend setting an alarm of some sort. So, power naps are awesome and I totally recommend them. Move Around Next, another way to have more energy is to move. I know that sounds crazy, but get up and move several times during the day. Do a few jumping jacks, or sprint down the driveway to the mailbox. Those are just a few ideas. It gives you a burst of energy to actually move. In light of moving, it is also very helpful to exercise regularly. I try to walk at least five or six times a week. It makes my attitude better and it gives me more energy and fresh air. Outside can make a world of difference anytime! Caffeine? Ok, this is going to blow your mind. STOP drinking caffeine. Yes, you heard me...STOP it! You will go through several weeks of grueling torture, but then you will thank yourself for it. Yes, I promise you will. Caffeine is fake energy. It is only for an amount of time and the more you drink of it the more you’ll need to have energy. I don’t drink caffeine at all. It is very helpful, and gives me more energy to not drink it. Yes, I sound crazy, but it’s true! I will have to give you a little background though. My father can’t have caffeine because it affects him pretty bad, so growing up my family never did caffeine. We always had decaffeinated coffee, and caffeine free cokes, so I never really had much caffeine. The several times that I have actually gotten it in my system, I went rather loo-loo so, I just don’t drink it, and I do believe that I am a better person for it. Say "No." Now that I have blown your mind, I hope you can come back together and keep reading this post. Don’t give up on me quite yet. I may sound crazy, but...well...I can’t say much, I am just a crazy person. Anyway, another way to get more energy is to slow down. I think that in our fast paced world, we forget to slow down and smell the roses. When you run from this appointment, to work, to this meeting, to whatever else you have going on; you run yourself ragged. It is not good for us to be constantly busy. We need to take time to enjoy life some and slow down. The Bible tells us to, ‘Be still and know that I am God.” The only way we can know God is to be still. So, I recommend slowing down some. Learn to say no to things, and learn to enjoy being quiet and having nothing to do. I do hope that these tips will help you find more energy in life. Energy is important for every aspect of life. So, take some power naps, exercise more, stop drinking caffeine, and slow down to enjoy life. Years from now when you are older, you will be glad you made the choices you did now that you are younger. It will help you in the long run and make you a better person, and a person with more energy. Thanks for listening and maybe...just maybe...you will take at least one piece of my advice and have a bit more energy to do the things in life that you need to do. Written by Peyton Holliday
